ZMT Hosts EMPIR MIMAS Project Meeting

ZMT Hosts EMPIR MIMAS Project Meeting

On February 28 and March 1, Zurich 43 was the site of the first regular project meeting of the MIMAS project partners from the National Physics Laboratory (NPL, UK), Istituto Nazionale di Ricerca Metrologica (INRIM, IT), Istituto Ortopedico Rizzoli (IOR, IT), and the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB, DE). ZMT was also very happy to welcome industry partner representatives from MEDARTIS, ADLER Ortho, and ESAOTE.

Manuel Murbach, head of MRI Programs at ZMT, opened the meeting together with Bernd Ittermann, the project coordinator from PTB Berlin. The progress and specific issues for each of the seven work-packages, ranging from the generation of anatomical human models with implanted devices to adequate simulation models for the induced heating from gradient and radiofrequency exposure in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), were discussed. The industry partners provided valuable input regarding implant configurations and material properties. All of these interactions will help insure that the project regarding assessment of the safety of metallic implants in MRI diagnostics continue successfully .

After a very intense first day and a brief tour of the Zurich 43 research facilities, the participants enjoyed a dinner of fondue at Restaurant Jurablick, in the middle of the woods on the Üetliberg.

It was ZMT's pleasure to host this productive meeting here in Zurich!
